ROY CARL DRAKE ROCKY HOCK / IVOR CHARGE - UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SERVICE YEARS 2002-2008 Reverend Roy Carl Drake was born in Sedley, Virginia, and attended Grace Memorial United Methodist Church most of his life. He grew up in Sedley, attending Southampton County Public schools, graduating in 1964. Following graduation he attended Danville Technical Institute, receiving a certificate on letterpress and photolithography. He joined the National Guard and served for two years. In 1968 he took a job at Union Camp in Franklin, retiring after 31 and a half years. In 1981 he returned to Grace Memorial and his journey to faith really began in earnest. He had a strong desire to learn more about God, so he read and studied constantly. He spent many hours listening to lectures and taking courses while working full-time at Union Camp. He attended school and received his license to be a local pastor in the spring on 2004. His ministry at Rocky Hock and Ivor began in January of 2002, and he will retiring in June of 2008. During his retirement he will enjoy traveling, reading, gardening and simply enjoying God's Creation. Roy, we at Rocky Hock and Ivor thank you for your sincere devotion to both churches. Thank you, Miss Evelyn, for the information. ****************************************************************************** ROCKY HOCK CHURCH BULLETIN - IN MEMORY OF REVEREND ROY CARL DRAKE Roy Carl Drake, 65, passed away May 9, 2011, at his residence. Roy Drake was born in Sedley, Virginia. Roy retired from Union Camp Corporation after 31 years in the sheeting finishing department. He was a former National Guardsman and a member of Grace Memorial United Methodist Church for most of his life. Roy attended Southampton High School, Danville Technical Institute, Liberty University BS & Moody Bible Institute, Andersonville Baptist Seminary and Duke Divinity School. He taught at Eastern Carolina Christian College for over 12 years and loved every minute of it. Roy served as Assistant Pastor of the Wakefield Charge of the UMC and was the first Pastor of the Rocky Hock-Ivor Charge. He enjoyed telling stories to the parishioners about his young granddaughter, Victoria. After leaving the Rocky Hock and Ivor churches, Roy planned to retire, but God had other plans for him. In September 2008, he became pastor at Burton's Grove Christian Church. At his death, he was serving as Pastor of Burton's Grove Christian Church, UCC and was named as their Pastor Emeritus on April 24, 2011. A memorial service was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Rickman officiating. Interment was private. A reception followed the memorial service at Grace Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev.
