BENNIE CRAWFORD DARDEN

   Bennie Crawford Darden, 44, farmer of Franklin community, died Tuesday 
afternoon at Raiford Hospital after an illness of about two weeks.  Mr. Darden 
is the son of Mrs. Lizzie Hart Darden and the late Rufus E. Darden of 
Southampton County.

   He had been a member of Sycamore Baptist Church since early childhood.

   Surviving besides his mother, are one sister, Mrs. Alice Darden Hall, of 
Suffolk; two brothers, Rufus Darden of Courtland and Charlie V. Darden of 
Portsmouth.

   Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the 
Holland Funeral Home by his pastor, the Rev. N.D. Blackman of Courtland and 
the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin.  Interment was made in the family 
cemetery near Franklin.  Active pallbearers were James Whitley, Carroll Beale, 
Theon Darden, Jack Wiggins, Homer Holland and Harvey Darden.

Additional information: 

His parents were married 23 Jan 1896, in Isle of Wight Co. 

His father 1m. Nora EDWARDS, 17 Dec 1885 (Southampton Co. MB5:498). 
   On the certificate, he is styled Rufus E. Darden jr.* - though his parents 
   are given as Jos.J. & Emeline Darden. 

His father Joseph James DARDEN is buried in Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery.
