He was a son of John A. Darden and Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Hedgepeth Darden of Nansemond County, and the husband of Mrs. Willie Mae Parker Darden. A native of Nansemond County, he lived in Newsoms 15 years. He was a member of Holland Baptist Church and a veteran of World War I. Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John Beale, Jr.* of Franklin; four sons, Harvey James Darden, Jr. of Holland, W. Thomas Darden and J. Ashley Darden of Newsoms, and Parker E. Darden of Franklin; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Harrell and Mrs. Geneva Harrell of Holland and Mrs. Bessie Stephenson of Walters, and 12 grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted today, Thursday, at 2:30 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. R.E. Brittle of Bethlehem Christian Church and the Rev. William H. Corbett of Holland. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Pallbearers are William Parker, John Newman Parker, Widbee Harrell, Louis Harrell, Julian Harrell, Gilmer Harrell, Robert Lee Harrell and George D. Parker.
