Born in Nansemond County, she was a daughter of the late S.L. Joyner Sr. and Lucy Mae Lowe Joyner and the widow of Harvey James Darden Jr. Mrs. Darden was a former purchasing agent for Hercules Inc., and a member of Branchville United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Darden Hedgepeth and her husband, Bob, of Norfolk; a son, Dennis W. Darden and his wife, Tammy, of Branchville; two sisters, Julia J. Carr of Carrsville and Kitty Slaton of Henrico, N.C.; a brother, S.L. "Buck" Joyner Jr. of Franklin; four grandchildren, Anne-Nicole Hedgepeth, Leigh Catherine Hedgepeth, Casey Jeanette Darden and Travis Reed Darden. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lori-Elizabeth Hedgepeth. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, with the Rev. Raymond McGarr officiating. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and suggest that any memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1290 Seminole Trail, Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
