Funeral services for John Barham Darden, Jr., 58, of Norfolk, a former resident of Newsoms were conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the graveside in Newsoms Cemetery by Rev. L.F. Smith, pastor of the Newsoms Baptist Church. He was assisted by Rev. T. Lee Richardson of Luray Baptist Church, Luray. Mr. Darden, who resided at 3572 Utah Ave. Inglside, died Saturday morning, March 30, in De Paul Hospital. He was the husband of Mrs. Virginia Presson Darden of Norfolk and the son of Mrs. Georgia Little Darden of Newsoms and the late John Barham Darden. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church and served in the ROTC during World War I. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thomas White and Miss Virginia Lee Darden of Norfolk; a grandson, Leslie Darden White of Norfolk; a sister Mrs. Thomas I. Burbage, Jr., of Baltimore; a brother, William L. Darden of Franklin; a niece Mrs. William F. Kelly of Franklin, and two great-nephews. Active pallbearers were L.Stanley Myrick, George C. Cabell, Rufus E. Darden, Harvey Picot, Carl Picot, R.N. Darden, Ralph L. Porter and Bowden Hundley.
