Darden, 73, died at her home near Franklin this morning after an illness of several months. She was the widow of Thomas A. Darden, of Southampton, and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. I.Q. Wiggins and Mrs. Vernard Cotton; three sons, Joseph T., Hunter and Theon A. Darden, all of Franklin, and one brother, Eddie Cross, of Southampton. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Sycamore Baptist Church by the Rev. Gordon L. Price, a former pastor of the deceased. Active pallbearers will be the three sons, two sons-in-law and Jack and Joe Wiggins. Burial will be at Sycamore Churchyard. ****************************************************************************** Mrs. Laura Virginia Darden, age 74, of the Sycamore community, died at her home Friday, March 23, 1934, after a brief illness from influenza. She suffered an attack of angina on Thanksgiving Day and had never fully recovered. Mrs. Darden had lived her entire life in this immediate community and was known and loved by all who knew her. She seemed to have an especial appeal to young people, her life being characterized by simplicity, gentleness, and living kindness to everybody. She was a real neighbor, faithful and devoted wife and mother, counting no sacrifice to great for her family. She loved flowers and experienced a peculiar pleasure in growing them to share with others. For more than 50 years Mrs. Darden was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and was an active member of the Woman’s Missionary Society. Funeral services were conducted from the church Sunday afternoon by a former Pastor, Rev. Gordan L. Price of Roanoke Rapids, assisted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin, interment following in the family plot in the church cemetery. Mrs. Darden was the wife of the late Thomas A. Darden, who died 13 years ago, and is survived by five children; Mrs. I.Q. Wiggins, Mrs. Vernard Cotton, Joseph T., Hunter and Theon A. Darden, all of Franklin; a brother Eddie Cross, and 14 grandchildren. Laura Virginia (CROSS; Mrs. Thomas A.)
