Laurence Eley Darden Jr. a retired banker and Assistant Treasurer with the Morgan Guarantee Trust Co., N.Y., died in Lenox Hill Hospital, N.Y. He was a native of Greensboro, N.C. and the son of Laurence Ely and Elizabeth Watkins Darden Sr. of N.Y. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Arthur L. Barney of N.Y. and several nieces and nephews. The body will be sent to W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** LAURENCE ELY DARDEN, JR. NEW YORK CITY - A funeral service for Laurence Ely Darden was conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by Dr. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The body was sent from Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home, to W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home, Tuesday. Pallbearers were W.T. Pace Jr., George H. Parker Jr., John D. Abbitt, Dr. Carl Hellberg, Carlton Cutchins, Vaughan Beale, and Tall Jones. Darden, 70, retired assistant treasurer of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company, died in Lennox Hill hospital last Friday after a brief illness. A native of Greensboro, N.C., he made his home in New York since early childhood. He was the son of the late Laurence Ely and Mrs. Elizabeth Watkins Darden of New York City. His mother was a native of Franklin. He was a member of the Baptist Church in New York City. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Arthur L. Barney, of New York City and several nieces and nephews.
