All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARY JANE DARDEN Mrs. Mary Jane Darden, 83, widow of Robert Darden, died at her home in the Franklin community Sunday morning following an illness of several years. Mrs. Darden is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W.L. Turbyfill of Norfolk; Mrs. G.E. Johnson of Suffolk and Miss Estelle Darden of Franklin; two sons, Rochelle J. Darden of Franklin and Robert Darden and a grandson, Lloyd A. Darden of Franklin. Mrs. Darden was the oldest member of Sycamore Baptist Church, near Franklin, and had been a faithful attendant at its services and an active worker in its organizations until over-taken by ill health. Services were conducted Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the residence by her pastor, the Rev. John B. Isom of Courtland, assisted by the Rev. Floyd P. Davis of Pasquotank County, N.C., a former pastor, and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin Baptist Church. The choir of Sycamore Church sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," accompanied by Mrs. Ryland Edwards. Burial took place in the family plot near the home, pallbearers being Hunter Darden, Rufus Darden, Tyler Edwards, Herman Howell, Pat Cotton and Jimmie Daughtrey.
