Darden, 58 years old, World War I veteran of Franklin died this morning in the Veterans Hospital in Roanoke, after an illness of eight years. He was the son of the late Robert and Mary Jane* Gardner Darden, of Southampton County, and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Surviving him are two sisters, Miss Estelle Darden and Mrs. Ella Darden Johnson, of Norfolk. The body was taken to Holland Funeral Home in Franklin, where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. ****************************************************************************** ROCHELLE JENNINGS DARDEN Rochelle J. Darden, a native of the Sycamore community and a World War I veteran, died Tuesday morning, August 17, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Roanoke, at the age of 58, after an illness of eight years. He was a son of the late Robert and Mary Jane* Gardner Darden of Southampton County, and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. Ella Darden Johnson and Miss Estelle Darden of Norfolk, and one nephew, Lloyd A. Darden of Franklin. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at four o’clock at the Holland Funeral Home by Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Portsmouth, assisted by Rev. L.M. Kanipe, pastor of Sycamore Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Hunter Darden, C.C. Vaughan, 3rd, George Watkins, Tyler Edwards, Vernard Cotton and Jack Wiggins. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
