All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ROBERT DARDEN Robert Darden, a well known and estimable citizen of the Franklin community, died at his home near here early Thursday morning (June 20, 1929) in the 79th year of his life. Mr. Darden had been in ill-health for several months and had been confined to his bed since last Thanksgiving. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mrs. Emma Darden, both of this county, and the place where he was born, lived and died has been in the family for more than a century. Mr. Darden was an honorable and upright man, a good citizen and neighbor and a kind and affectionate husband and father. On January 20, 1876 he married Miss Jane Gardner of this country, who survives him with five children; Mrs. W.L. Turbyfill of Norfolk, Rochelle Darden, Mrs. G.E. Johnson and Miss Estelle Darden of Franklin and Robert Darden of Claremount, Georgia. He also leaves two brothers, Rufus Darden of Franklin community, Richard Darden of Holland and one sister, Mrs. W.M. Cobb of this town, besides, one grandchild Lloyd A. Darden of Franklin, and a large family connection. He had been a member of Sycamore Baptist Church since childhood and was the oldest living make member of that congregation at the time of his death. He had been true to his faith and had practiced its precepts in his dealings with his fellowmen. Funeral services will be conducted from his late home this afternoon at 2 o’clock by his Pastor, Rev. Kenneth E. Burke, assisted by Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield, a former pastor at Sycamore, and interment will follow in the old burying ground on the farm. The body bearers, all friends and neighbors of his will be: J.D. Burgess, R.E. Holland, Tyler Edwards, W.T. Harcum, Hunter Darden, Lee Vaughan, Charlie Darden and Eddie Vaughan. Robert DARDEN, b.
