Mr. Darden, a native of Nansemond County was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and Franklin Lodge 1573 of the Loyal Order of Moose. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lee Butler and Rita Beltrami, and a son, Roy M. Darden, Jr., all of Franklin; six sisters, Hazel Johnson, Nellie Kauss and Martha Bradshaw, of Franklin, Vicky Leake of Portsmouth, Lois Turner of Suffolk and Lucille Blanchard of Edenton, N.C.; eight brothers, Sam Darden, Clifton Darden, Clayton Darden and Philip Darden, all of Franklin, Willie Darden and Joe Darden, both of Suffolk, Elmer J. Darden, of Carrsville and James Darden of Richmond; and four grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. Reginald Warren. Friends may join the family from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
