Darden of "Beechwood" this county, died in a Norfolk hospital Monday in his 55th year. He was a native of Hertford County, N.C., but had lived in Southampton for a number of yeaqrs, marrying Miss Sallie Summerell about 17 years ago, who died in 1920. About three years ago Mr. Darden married Miss Amy Bain, daughter of J.W. Bain of the Ivor community, who survives him. He is also survived by four brothers, C.W. Darden of Franklin, A.C. Darden of Hampton, J.H. Darden of Mapleton, N.C. and W.H. Darden of Windsor, N.C. Mr. was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church and the funeral was conducted by the Pastor, Rev. Kenneth E. Burke, assisted by Rev. W.M. Hall of Ivor. The services were held at the home of J.W. Bain Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, interment following in the family burying ground. The body bearers were J.H., W.H., and A.C. Darden, H.P. Gatling, B.B. Herbert, Tucker Bain, Colgate Darden, Jr., and Pretlow Darden.
