A native of Isle of Wight County, he was a son of Moses and Mrs. Mae Pierce Darden.* He was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and Walters Woodman of the World Lodge. Besides his widow, surviving are a brother, G.T. Darden of Holland, and two sisters, Mrs. Annie Mae Brock and Mrs. Philip Keeter of Carrsville. A funeral service was held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Edwin C. Thornton of Beaver Dam Church and the Rev. Donald E. Trump of Colosse Baptist Church. Burial was in Beaver Dam Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ryland Duck, Bernard Lankford, Peter Bradshaw, Wayland Perry, James Carr and Robert Lee. They are buried in a DARDEN family cemetery, described as near the corner of Darden Mill Rd. & Joyners Bridge Rd. (Find a Grave Memorials #131056357 & #130993646, respectively) Ella's D.Cert. (4926 {Windsor #1}) gives bu. 4 Jan 1953, "Family Cemetary, Near, Walters, Virginia." It may be identical with the Darden family cemetery on Darden Mill Rd., visited by the Isle of Wight County Historical Society (IWCHS) Grave Site Survey Task Force (GSSTF), but whose report - #154 - is not posted (Jun 2020), but no markers visible; reports at: http://www.iwchs.com/Cemetery-Reports.html William's brother George (1908-1976) is buried in South Quay Baptist Church Cemetery.
