DIES SUDDENLY Funeral services for William Henry Drewry, Sr., 72, Franklin merchant who died suddenly Tuesday afternoon, October 22, at the residence on Lee Street, will be conducted tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock from the chapel of W.J.M. Holland and Sons. Rev. Tucker G. Humphries, pastor of the Congregational Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Harold S. Atkinson, Samuel Bradshaw, J. Letcher Eley, H.B. McLemore, Jr., J. Edward Moyler, Sr. Clarence B. Owen, John E. Ray, 3rd, and Robert W. Stephenson. Mr. Drewry was president of the Franklin Frozen Foods Corporation, a position he had held for several years. Prior to that he operated a successful grocery business in Franklin, first on Second Avenue and later on Main Street, winning the confidence and high esteem of all who dealt with him. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church. A native of Sussex County, Mr. Drewry was the husband of Mrs. Lutie Branch Drewry and the son of the late James Augustus and Mrs. Martha West Drewry*. Graduating from old Smithdeal Business College in Richmond, he was at one time assistant cashier of the Bank of Sussex and Surry in Wakefield. He was promoted to cashier of the branch bank in Ivor, where he served nine years; and from 1918 to 1930 he was cashier of the Bank of Sedley. When the bank closed during the Depression Mr. Drewry went into the grocery business in Sedley, remaining there until 1942, when he moved to Franklin. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Butterworth of Warwick, Mrs. Virginia Lyon of Newport News, and Mrs. Jean Williams of Franklin; six sons, William H. Drewry, Jr., and Richard T. Drewry of Franklin, J. West Drewry of Newport News, Forrest B. Drewry of Houston, Tex., and N. Wayne Drewry and James A. Drewry of Shreveport, La.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 niece and nephews.
