SAVAGE EVANS Mrs. Lucy Savage Evans, wife of Ernest G. Evans, well-known Franklin citizen, died Monday morning after an illness of many months, being in the University Hospital, Charlottesville, for treatment for the past several weeks. Mrs. Evans, who was a native of North Carolina, had been a resident of our town for many years where she was highly esteemed by many friends and neighbors and was a consistent communicant of High Street M.E. Church, and a member of the Woman’s Missionary organization. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Ernest Gwynn and Jack Evans of this town; three daughters, Miss Elizabeth Evans who teaches in Rocky Mount, N.C., Miss Hazel Evans and Bertha Evans of Franklin; two brothers, Vance Savage of Hobgood, N.C., and Ed Savage of South Carolina., and a sister, Mrs. Rice Gwynn of Danville. Funeral services were held from the home in South High Street Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Roscoe Jones, Pastor of High Street M.E. Church, assisted by the Rev. J. Sutherland-Watt of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, burial following in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pallbearers were: A.D. Smithwick, J.A. Weede, J.J. Pace, R.E. Futrelle, J. Soble, Roger I.
