        CAPTAIN EVERETT DEAD. 

The Steamer Gardefre Reaches Norfolk, 
          Other News Notes. 

  NORFOLK, VA., Jan. 23.-Special.- Captain L. F. 
Everett, of the firm of Norman & Everett, died at 
his room at the Atlantic Hotel, this city, late 
Sunday night, after a short illness from pneumonia, 
aged fifty-six years.  He leaves no family.  His 
estate is valued at $50,000.  His remains were 
taken to Southampton county to-day for interment, 
under an escort from the Cotton Exchange.  He had 
been sick only two days.
