All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ SALLIE HART EDMONDS Mrs. Sallie Hart Edmonds of Pittsburgh, Penn., a former resident of our town, died in Pittsburgh July 14, in the 56th* year of her life, and was buried in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Edmonds was a native of Southampton County, the daughter of the late Captain Robert Hart and Mrs. Cornelia Majette Hart and was the youngest of five children, the survivors being her daughter, Mrs. Wilbur C. Tillitt, and a granddaughter; a brother, James R. Hart of Sunbeam, and a sister, Mrs. Fannie Bryant of Boykins, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a wide family connection. Another brother, John Drew Hart, preceded her to the grave a little less than one year ago. In 1896 Miss Sallie Hart married Edward Eugene Edmonds of Washington. Mr. Edmonds dying in 1901, Mrs. Edmond moved to Franklin and lived here with her daughter, Edythe, and her mother, Mrs. Cornelia Hart, until 1907 when they moved to Norfolk and spent several years in that city until after the marriage of her daughter when Mrs. Edmonds moved to Pittsburgh to live with her daughter there. She was admired and esteemed by all who know her as a fine Christian character, a woman of unusual qualities and of generous impulses. She was a faithful and consistent member of the Franklin Baptist Church for a number of years and the funeral services were conducted from that church as were those of her husband, and she was laid to rest beside him in the local cemetery. Rev. R.D. Stephenson of the Baptist Church conducted the service, assisted by Dr. G.H. Spooner of High Street M.E. church, choirs from the two churches singing. The body bearers were: bob and Earle Bryant, Roswell Hart, Walter Beale Jr., Henry E. Boyd, W.W. White Jr., W.J. Cannon and Lee Hill. The honorary pallbearers were: Dr. R.H. Cobb, Dr. E.A. deBordenave, J.B. Gay, Ernest L. Beale, J.R. Howell, I.E. Howell, Dr. J.M. Bland, Dr. Riddick, H.M. Drewry, J.T. Bryant, T.H. Barrett, J.L. Tillitt, E. Frank Story and R.A. Majette.
