Edwards, 78, mother of Mrs. Jordan Beale Powell of our town, died at Raiford Hospital on December 23, following a brief illness. Mrs. Edwards was the widow of Joel Taylor Edwards of Isle of Wight County and the daughter of the late Burton Warren and Mrs. Martha W. Hearn of Delaware. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church of Newport News, moving her membership from Smithfield, Virginia, where she had lived for many years. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. William M. Porter and Mrs. T.W. Duell of Norfolk; Mrs. J.B. Powell of Franklin, and Mrs. S.J. Noreck of Smithfield, N.C.; one brother, Athlin Hearn of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one son Joel Taylor Edwards, Jr. of Syracuse, N.Y., and three grandchildren, Mrs. Virginia Tennis and Warren Orr, of Newport News and Dr. Jordan B. Powell, Jr., of Ahoskie, N.C. Funeral services were conducted at 11 o’clock December 26 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.B. Powell, in West Franklin, by the Rev. B.B. Bland and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. The casket was covered with a pall of Easter lilies and red roses and there were many other floral tributes. The choir of the Methodist Church sang "Silent Night, Holy Night." Active pallbearers were Dr. J.B. Powell, Jr. of Ahoskie; Ryland Hill of Woodland; Clyde Tennis, Warren Orr, and Thomas Osborne, of Norfolk; J.J. Finley, Robert E. Coggsdale and W.R. Atkinson of Franklin. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Allen W.
