Mr. Edwards, a native of Southampton County, was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Capron Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lessie T. Edwards; two daughters, Patricia E. McGuire and Cilda Ann Edwards, both of Franklin; a sister, Mildred W. Galloway of Portsmouth; two brothers, Samuel E. Edwards Jr. of Portsmouth and Sydney M. Edwards of Conway, N.C.; and two grandchildren. The graveside service was held Tuesday in Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley by the Revs. H.V. Conner and Joseph A. Slane. Memorial donations may be made to the Diane Daughtrey Reed Scholarship Fund, c/o Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin. Wright Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
