All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ FRANKLIN EDWARDS FRANKLIN EDWARDS DIES; REVENUE OFFICIAL, 77 FRANKLIN - April 4 - Franklin Edwards, 77, commissioner of revenue here for 45 years, died Sunday. Mr. Edwards served as a captain in the 116th Virginia Infantry Regiment and during World War I he commanded a company through the Meuse Argonne battle in France. During World War II he was a major in command of the Virginia State Guard at Franklin, Suffolk and Newport News. He was educated at Franklin Military Academy, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Wake Forest College, where he took academic and law degrees. He also studied chemistry at Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Edwards was a charter member and one of the first commanders of the Southampton post of the American Legion, a charter member and past president of the Franklin Rotary Club and a member of Franklin Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 Tuesday in Poplar Spring Cemetery, with military honors.
