All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOHN LINWOOD EDWARDS LINWOOD EDWARDS IS HEART ATTACK VICTIM John Linwood Edwards, Sr., 59, of the Fourth Avenue Apts., Franklin, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital about 11 o'clock Friday night July 5, following a heart attack suffered at his home the preceding Wednesday morning. "Pop" as he was known to a wide circle of friends, was a native and life- long resident of Southampton County. He was the husband of Mrs. Virginia Marie Ricks Edwards of Franklin, and the son of the late John Thomas and Mrs. Margaret Beale Edwards of Southampton County, his father having been farm manager for the late J.L. Camp. Mr. Edwards attended the Franklin schools and while still in his teens, he entered the employ of Camp Manufacturing Company. For more than 40 years he was employed by Camp Manufacturing Company and it successor, Union Bag-Camp Paper Corp. At the time of his death he was supervisor of office services in the Franklin office. The deceased was an active member of the Franklin Baptist Church and of the Bruner Bible class. He served several terms on the board of deacons, and was chairman of the board of ushers. He was also a member of the Franklin Lions Club and past chancellor commander of Franklin Lodge No. 51, Knights of Pythias. A sports enthusiast, he was a familiar figure at baseball and football games both in Franklin and elsewhere. Besides his wife he is survived by a son, John Linwood Edwards, Jr. of Richmond, an employee of the State Highway Department, two grandchildren, John Linwood Edwards, 3rd and Sue Davis Edwards of Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. H.O. Atkinson of Richmond, Mrs. Ocie H. Bland of Suffolk and Mrs. R.A. Bunn of Boykins; and two nieces, Mrs. Harold C. Berkley of Richmond and Mrs. Howard C. Story of Courtland. Services for Mr. Edwards were conducted Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons, with Rev. Ira D. Hudgins, pastor of the Franklin Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Tucker G. Humphries, pastor of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, officiating. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being R.H. Allen, Lloyd A. Darden, Gardner T. Edwards, Joe Bynum Gay, Jr., Edward F. Gilliam, J.R. Howerton, John E. Ray, 3rd, and W.M. Weede. Members of the Bruner Bible class were honorary pallbearers.
