All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LILLIE WHITLEY EDWARDS Mrs. Lillie Whitley Edwards, 62, widow of Benjamin Franklin Edwards, of the Franklin community, died at Raiford Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning after having suffered a stroke several days ago. Mrs. Edwards was the daughter of the late Jesse and Mollie Ferguson Whitley, of Southampton County. She was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Surviving are five daughters, Miss Grace May Edwards of Franklin; Miss Jessie Edwards; Mrs. W.C. Costen, both of Norfolk; Mrs. Jennie Edward Brickhouse and Mrs. W.J. Hill, of Portsmouth; three sons, Staff Sergt. J.F. Edwards, Army Air Force in Burma; Corp. Hurley Edwards, U.S. Marine Corps., and William E. Edwards, of Franklin; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Whitley, Mrs. Cora Edwards and Mrs. Eva Jones of Norfolk, and Mrs. Bessie Bowles, of Portsmouth; two brothers, Lonzo Whitley, of Norfolk, and Early Whitley, of Jacksonville, Fla., and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Sycamore Baptist Church by the Rev. N.D. Blackman and the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin. Pallbearers were: Hunter Darden, Guy Cross, C.J. Joyner, E. Lee Vaughan, J.T. Vaughan and Dewey Howell.
