Holland and Sons Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Darden Battle and the Rev. Joseph R. Johnson. Burial with Masonic Rites was held in Southampton Memorial Park. Pallbearers were R.H. Scarborough, Roy L. Sexton, J.L. Rideout, Tyler Edwards Jr., Marvin Porter, Mills R. Edwards, D.A. Gooden and Dr. E.L. Irving. Member of the Men’s Bible Class of Sycamore Baptist Church and Franklin Lodge Knights of Pythias were honorary pallbearers. Edwards, 56, a farmer, died Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Southampton Memorial Hospital after illness of many months. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Tyler and Mrs. Junie Cobb Edwards and the husband of Mrs. Gladys Scarborough Edwards. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, Franklin Masonic Lodge 151, Franklin Pythian Lodge 51, and Norfolk Khedive Shrine Temple. Besides his widow, surviving are a son, Mills Carlyle Edwards Jr. of the Navy; and a daughter, Miss Carolyn Paige Edwards, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards Moody, and a brother, Clyde Tyler Edwards, all of Franklin.
