A native of Southampton County, he lived in Portsmouth 14 years before returning to the county to live. He was a son of Joseph S. and Mrs. Mollie Turner Edwards. He was a retired farmer and a member of Boykins Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Zelma Bradshaw Edwards; two sons, Paul T. Edwards Jr., of Portsmouth and Adrian Edwards of Miami; a daughter, Mrs. Sammie E. Shelton of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. Ida Balance of Newsoms; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in McDowell Funeral Home by the Rev. Ben B. Ussery. Edwards, 76*, died in Southampton Memorial Hospital early Thursday. A native of Southampton County, he lived in Portsmouth three years before returning to the county 14 years ago.
