ROSCOE GILLIAM EDWARDS SR.

   COURTLAND - A graveside funeral service for Roscoe Gilliam Edwards Sr., 89, 
of Courtland was held Monday at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. 
Harold C. Lewis.

   Pallbearers were Braxton Holcomb, Handy Moore, Walter Britt, Otis Drake, 
Hampton Edwards, Davis Babb, Vance Grissom and Dr. E.F. Reese III.

   A native of Southampton County, he was a son of William E. and Mrs. Mary 
Olivia Speight Edwards and the husband of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Arendall 
Edwards.

   He was a former deputy treasurer of Southampton County and a retired 
merchant.  He was a 77 year member of Courtland Baptist Church.

   He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Katherine Ransom; two sons, Roscoe G. 
Edwards Jr. and Warren E. Edwards all of Courtland; eight grandchildren, Frank 
Redd Ransom of Norfolk, Mrs. Faye Copeland of Waynesboro, Mrs. Cathy Sutton of 
Wilson, N.C., 1st Lt. Warren C. Edwards of Vietnam, Miss Elizabeth Jane 
Edwards, Miss Peggy Edwards, Miss Olivia Edwards, Stephen Edwards, all of 
Courtland; and four great grandchildren.

   The family will be at the home of Mrs. Katherine Ransom.  In lieu of 
flowers contributions may be made to the Courtland Rescue Squad.
