He was a son of Jesse Thomas and Mrs. India Crumpler Edwards of Southampton County. He was a deacon of Sycamore Baptist Church. He was a World War I veteran, a member of Forks of the River Ruritan Club, and supervisor of the woodyard of Union Bag Paper Co. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Josie Rebecca Vaughan Edwards of Franklin; three sons, Dr. Robert Thomas Edwards and Richard Vaughan Edwards, both of Franklin and Winston Franklin Edwards of Lynchburg; four daughters, Mrs. E. Rawls Carter of Powersville, N.C., Mrs. William H. Riddick and Miss Lucille Edwards, both of Franklin, and Miss Lena Edwards of Lynchburg; six grandchildren; one brother, William Claude Edwards of Franklin; one sister, Mrs. Theon A. Darden of Franklin, and two nieces and two nephews. A funeral service will be held at W.J.M. Holland Sons Funeral Home here today at 4 p.m. by Dr. J.R. Johnson, Chaplain of Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg, and the Rev. Thomas Downing, pastor of Sycamore Baptist Church, Franklin, Va. ****************************************************************************** RYLAND EDWARDS DIES FOLLOWING HUNT Ryland Thomas Edwards, 64, died of a heart attack Tuesday morning. He was stricken at the Bronco Club following a deer hunt and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Raiford Memorial Hospital. He was a son of Jesse Thomas and Mrs. India Crumpler Edwards of Southampton County. He was a deacon of Sycamore Baptist Church. He was a World War I veteran, a member of Forks of the River Ruritan Club, and supervisor of the wood yard of Union Bag Camp Paper Co. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Josie Rebecca Vaughan Edwards of Franklin; three sons, Dr. Robert Thomas Edwards and Richard Vaughan Edwards, both of Franklin, and Winston Franklin Edwards of Lynchburg; four daughters, Mrs. E. Pallbearers were Pat Cotton, Willie Cotton, Vernard Cotton, Hunter Darden, Harry Skipper, C.B. Smart, Otto Harcum, George Steinback.
