Mr. Edwards, a native of Southampton County, worked for Union Camp Paper Corp. for 40 years. He was a member of the Franklin American Legion Post and an Army veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church. Surviving include his wife, Jane J. Edwards; a daughter, Cheryl Edwards of Suffolk; two step daughters, Patricia H. Jones of Jackson, N.C., and Jane Marie Davis of Conway, N.C.; four sisters, Gaynelle E. Riddick of Franklin, Rebecca E. Carter of Powellsville, N.C., Lucille E. Carter of Raleigh, and Lena E. Giles of Morristown, Tenn.; two brothers, Dr. Robert T. Edwards and W. Franklin Edwards, both of Franklin; and four grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Severn North Carolina Cemetery by the Rev. William E. Hawkins. McDowell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
