SIDNEY RAY EDWARDS 

Sidney R. Edwards 

  CAPRON - Sidney "Speck" Ray Edwards, 60, died Sept. 14, 2000, at Southampton 
Memorial Hospital after a short battle with cancer.  Speck was born in Sussex 
County and was a lifelong resident of Capron.  He was an avid race car driver 
and self-employed truck driver for many years.  He is survived by two 
daughters, Brenda E. Burgess and her husband, Todd R. Burgess, of Capron and 
Melisa E. Presson and her husband, Gordon D. Presson, of Franklin; three 
sisters, Phyllis Belville of Stony Creek, Shelvia Harrell of Joyner and 
Barbara Story of Newsoms; a brother, Carl F. "Buck" Edwards of Capron; five 
grandchildren, Nikki, Chris, Taylor, Lori and Dean; several nieces and nephews 
and many friends.  He was predeceased by his father, Carl F. Edwards Sr., and 
his mother, Flossie Bryant Edwards; a son, Sidney Keith Edwards; and two 
grandchildren.  A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral 
Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Howard Vinson and the Rev. Robert Parks 
officiating.  Burial will be in Capron Cemetery.  The family will receive 
friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and other times at 
the residence and at Capron Community Center after the funeral.  In lieu of 
flowers, donations may be made in Speck's memory to the American Cancer 
Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
