All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ TALITHA FRANCES WHITLEY EDWARDS Mrs. Talitha Whitley Edwards, 77, well-known and beloved resident of Franklin, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.C. Blythe, in West Franklin early Saturday morning after an illness of a few weeks. Mrs. Edwards was daughter of the late Everett and Mary Eliza Barnes Whitley of North Carolina, and wife of the late Newitt Calvin Edwards of Franklin. She was a consistent member of the Franklin Methodist Church, the Missionary Society and an active member of the Jean Craig Circle of her church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. J.V. Milteer, Mrs. C.C. Blythe, Mrs. Mary Jane Stephenson and Mrs. Roy Johnson, all of Franklin; two sons, William Calvin Edwards of Norfolk and Emmett L. Edwards of Washington; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Bailey of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Mrs. Ethel Whitley Holland of Norfolk; one brother, Henry Whitley of Como, N.C., and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were held from the home of Mrs. C.C. Blythe Monday afternoon at three o’clock by the Rev. B.B. Bland, assisted by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. The choir of High Street Methodist Church sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "Sometime We’ll Understand." The casket was covered with a pall of pink roses, white carnations and fern. Pallbearers were Clyde Edwards, C.C. Blythe, Jr., Earving Blythe, Herman Bowles, Stanley Edwards, Claude Cook, Theodore Eason and Gordon Cobb. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
