ELEY Elmo Murray Eley died at his home in Franklin Saturday evening, May 25, at 8 o'clock in his forth-eighth year. He had been in poor health for three years and although his family and intimate friends knew that the end of the brave fight he had made was in sight, the whole town sorrowed when his death was announced. Men are born and are destined to spend their lives in different spheres of activity and usefulness, and it was primarily a part of our friends's lot in life to make friends. There were few citizens of Franklin who numbered as many close, personal friends as he and his genial manner and courteous and accommodating attitude towards everyone had drawn to him numbers of his fellow townsmen who feel an intimate loss as we realize that "Bo" Eley is no more and that we shall not hear his cherry voice again. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and as secretary of its Sunday school for more than twenty years, he had been a marvel of faithfulness and efficiency in that capacity, not missing a Sunday from duty for over seventeen years. He was prominent in the affairs of the Masonic, Odd Fellows, Royal Arcanum and Woodmen of the World orders, his funeral being conducted by Franklin Lodge No. 151, A.F. & A.M., his pastor, Rev. J.L. McCutcheon, assisting. The funeral services were held from his late residence in High Street Sunday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock and interment was made in Poplar Spring cemetery. The pallbearers were Dr. E.A. deBordenave, Dr. W.H. Arthur, J.V. Boone, General C.C. Vaughan, J.A. Pretlow, Joe Bynum Gay, Roger I. Beale and Jno. A. Williams. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Hill Eley, to whom he was married in 1898, and by two children, Emily Hill and Marian Vann Eley; by his father, Mr. E.S. Eley, a step-mother and a half-brother, J. Lawrence Eley.
