Alan Melton. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. He died Saturday in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Southampton county, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Cobb Eley. He was retired as an agent for Southwestern Life Insurance Co. after 30 years and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, where he served as secretary for many years. He was financial secretary and a trustee of Pythian Lodge 1, Knights of Pythias and former secretary of Woodmen of the World. Other survivors include a sister, Miss Elizabeth Eley of Franklin; and two brothers, Herman Eley of Franklin and Jasper Eley of Jackson, N.C.
