Letcher Eley, 83, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Revs. Richard T. Keikmann and W.A. Grissom. Wright Funeral Home was in charge. Eley died Wednesday in a hospital. A native of Whaleyville he was the husband of Vera Gay Eley. He was retired from W.R. Grace Fertilizer Co. after 40 years. He was a member, past treasurer and a lifetime deacon of Franklin Congregational Christian Church; a member of Forks-of-the-River Ruritan Club; and a past member of the Southampton County School Board. Other survivors include a daughter, Emma Ruth DuBose of St. Louis; two sons, John G. Eley of Charlottesville; a sister, Nancy E. March of Suffolk; a brother, Curtis M. Eley of Richmond; nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. John Letcher ELEY, retired 40-year W.R.
