All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ MARGARET PARKER ELEY Mrs. Margaret Parker Eley, a former Franklin resident, well-known and esteemed here, and widow of the late Eugene S. Eley of this town, died at Saint Vincent’s Hospital, Norfolk, early Saturday morning in her 73rd year. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Atkinson and Mrs. Mary Crafford Crump Parker of the Benn’s Church community in Isle of Wight County. She made her home in Franklin for more than 40 years, her husband, who was familiarly known by our people as Mr. Bose Eley, being a merchant here for many years, a deacon in the Franklin Baptist Church and a gallant Confederate soldier, Mr. Eley dying about eight years ago. For the past several years Mrs. Eley had made her home in Norfolk with her only child, J. Laurence Eley. The body was brought to Franklin and funeral services were conducted from the Franklin Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock by the Pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, where Mrs. Eley had long been a useful and consistent member. Burial was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being: Geo. H. Parker, Jno. C. Parker, Jr., Alex W. Parker, Geo. R. Hayes, W. Jasper Cotton, Dr. Ashley Cutchin, David T. Prince and Edgar B. Jackson. Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral rites here included: Mr. and Mrs. Alex W. Parker of Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. W. Jasper Cotton of Chuckatuck, Mrs. Emma M. Eley and Mrs. J. Allen Kenny of Rocky Mount, N.C. , Mrs. John E. Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mrs. James Branch and daughters, Misses Mae and Olive of Smithfield, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Dooley, Mrs. C.C. Bright and Mr. and Mrs. George D. Brownley of Norfolk.
