Eley died yesterday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of her son, Mr. L.P. Eley, in South Norfolk. The deceased was in the 68th year of her age and had been stricken with paralysis about nine years ago. She was the widow of the late James M. Eley, who preceded her to the grave four years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, Mr. L.P., W.E. and J.H. [sic; J.A.*] Eley, the latter of Suffolk, the former two of South Norfolk; one brother, Mr. Rufus Darden, of Newsoms, Va.; and two sisters, Mrs. Lydia M. Fowler, of Southampton county, and Mrs. Esther Old, of Pantico, NC. The deceased was born in Southampton county, July 1835, where she lived until about fifteen years ago, when she came to Berkley, and has since been residing with her sons. She was a member of Main Street Christian church, Berkley, quite a number of years, from which the funeral will be conducted this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Herbert Scholz, the pastor, will officiate and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery by the side of the remains of her husband. ****************************************************************************** The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary W. Eley was conducted from the Main Street Church yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The pastor, Rev. Herbert Scholz, officiated. At the conclusion of the services the remains were laid to rest in Magnolia Cemetery. Several wreaths of flowers bore evidence of a loving remembrance of friends. In addition to her friends there were in attendance Mrs. Rufus Darden, of Newsoms, Va and her son, Mr. J.H. Eley, of Suffolk and Mr. J.W. Bryant, of Courtland, Va. The pallbearers were Messrs. J.A. McCloud, Sr., J.A. McCloud, Jr., M.A. Roach, B.F. Wilson, Thomas Hanbury and Capt. C.W. Young. Mary Magdaline (DARDEN; Mrs. James M.) F, 61st VA Inf, CSA), and was surrendered at Appomattox.
