A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Ethel Saunders Ellis and a son of George W. and Mrs. Lillie Simmons Ellis. He was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church. Besides his widow, survivors are two sons, Benjamin F. Ellis, Jr. of Wakefield and Harold L. Ellis of Newsoms; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Catlett of Portsmouth and Mrs. Jacqueline Vann of Newsoms; four brothers G. Herbert Ellis and Pete D. Ellis of Newsoms, and Willie B. Ellis and Stanton Ellis of Stony Creek; and three sisters, Mrs. Estelle Porter of Norfolk and Mrs. Mary Taylor and Mrs. Adele Bryant of Portsmouth. Funeral services were Friday in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home, Franklin with burial in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were J.Q. Worrell, Russell Ferguson, L.D. Taylor, Charles Arrington, J.R. Holloman, James Cogsdale, C.L. Vick, Fred Worrell.
