Since early childhood she has been a member of Person’s Methodist Church where she loyally served and gave unstintingly of her life for the upbuilding of His Kingdom, and the betterment of mankind. She was a good, kind neighbor, a loyal friend, an affectionate wife and devoted mother, and to this end she gave freely of herself in every relationship of life. Our loss is great. Our hearts are heavy. There is an empty place in the life of all who knew and loved her. We shall greatly miss her in the home, in the church and community. We shall miss her devotion, her loyalty, her courage, her sympathetic understanding and compassion that marked her daily life among us. And yet we are deeply grateful to our Heavenly Father because He had given us to know her, and to labor with her in the Master’s service in the multitudinous avocations of life. Even in our sorrow we rejoice in her victorious pilgrimage to that land of sunshine where there are no clouds, no pain, no separation, no sorrow, no night. In the strength of her Christ she conquered the enemies of her soul and lived a life of beautiful usefulness. Mrs. Ellis was the daughter of the late Junius R. and Anne Francis Person. She leaves a devoted husband, B.D. Ellis, and the following children: Edgar Rawls of Boykins, Mrs. Kate Myrick of Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. W.J. Martin of Portsmouth, David Rawls of Margarettsville, N.C., Person Rawls of Richmond, Robert and Pete Ellis of Portsmouth and Mrs. John Partridge of Branchville, 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. The many lovely flowers bespeak a large and esteemed friendship. The pallbearers were: Lilbon Harris, Ellis Harris, Buck Harris, Amos Cochran, Brutus Coker and Ernest Frances. The honorary pallbearers were a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. L.F. Callaham, at Person’s Church. Interment was in Person’s Church Cemetery.
