John Williams and the Rev. Harry Bunch. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery with McDowell Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Julian Carter, Linwood Pope, Charlie Mack, Hersey Bradshaw, Lloyd Taylor and Claude Drake Jr. Pete Dudley Ellis, 64, died Saturday afternoon in a Franklin hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of George W. and Mrs. Lillie Simmons Ellis and the husband of Mrs. Acree S. Ellis. He was a deacon of Newsoms Baptist Church and a retired Norfolk Naval Shipyard tool clerk. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Ralph D. Ellis of Portsmouth; a daughter, Mrs. Audrey Gower of Atlanta; two brothers, Herbert Ellis of Portsmouth and Stanton Ellis of Stoney Creek; three sisters, Mrs. Estelle Porter of Newsoms and Mrs. Mary Taylor and Mrs. Adelle Bryant of Portsmouth; and seven grandchildren.
