All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES WILSON FUTRELL James Wilson Futrell, age 85, died August 18, at his home near Courtland after two weeks illness. He was the son of the late Henry and Martha Futrell of Northampton County, N.C., and a well-known farmer throughout the community. At an early age he united with the Baptist Church of Potecasi, N.C., later moving his membership to Newsoms Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member as long as he was able. He is survived by two sons, Walter C. Futrell, near Courtland, Sam W. Futrell, Hendersonville, N.C., four grandsons, one great-granddaughter, one sister and six brothers. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock by his pastor, Rev. Robert C. Wells. The choir sang, "Abide with Me" and "Never Grow Old." The active pallbearers were: Waverly Nurney, Gillette Bryant, M.W. Bryant, Joseph Washington, George Prince, Franklin Pope and Felix Bryant. A number of friends served as honorary pallbearers. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Burial was in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins. Active pallbearers were: Hunter Darden, J.T. Vaughan, W.M. Beale, S.W. Gardner, J.R. Lawrence, L.T. Saunders, C.T. Paul and Ralph Wall.
