All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ROBERT LEE FELTS Robert Lee Felts, 61, farmer and prominent churchman, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home near Capron on Saturday morning, December 25, about 7:30 o'clock. The deceased was a son of the late Emmett Allen Felts and Ida Whitley Felts of Southampton County, and the husband of Mrs. Laura Gillette Felts, who survives him. A member of the Methodist Church, Lee Felts had been a steward, member of the board of trustees, superintendent of the Sunday School and teacher of the Men's Bible class of the Applewhite Methodist Church. When Applewhites ceased to exist he transferred membership to the Capron Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Capron Ruritan Club. Besides his wife he is survived by his mother Mrs. E.A. Felts; three daughters, Mrs. James Dall Brown of Machodoc, Mrs. Jesse Eugene Jones of Smithfield, and Lt. Agnes Wesley Felts of Bethesda, Md; one grandson; three brothers, Nat Felts of Boykins, J.N. Felts of Galax, and R.S. Felts of Richmond; and one sister, Mrs. J.R. Johnson of Lynchburg. Funeral services for Mr. Felts were held at the home and at the graveside in the old Cary cemetery, "Bonnie Doone:, near Courtland. The services were conducted by Dr. J.R. Johnson of Lynchburg, brother-in-law of the deceased, assisted by Rev. J.T. Cassell and R.H. Marks of Capron. Active pallbearers were Ira H. Barham, Eldridge Felts, L.T. Francis, W.P. Gillette, Sr., L.S. Marks, W.H. Story, Joe Vick and J.D. Vick. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family. Mr. Felts was a truly Christian character. Of him it can be said as the Apostle Paul wrote near the end of his journey, "I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished the course." ****************************************************************************** Robt. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Laura Gillette Felts; his mother, Mrs. E.A. Felts, of Emporia; three daughters, Mrs. James Dall Brown Jr. of Machodoc, Va.; Mrs. J. Eugene Jones of Smithfield, and Lieutenant Agnes W. Felts, with the Navy at Bethesda, Md; one sister, Mrs. J.R. Johnson of Lynchburg; three brothers, L.N. Felts, of Boykins; R.S. Felts of Richmond, and J.N. Felts of Galax, and one grandson. Graveside rites were held at 2:30 P.M. December 27 at Cary Cemetery, near Capron.
