NETTIE MARIA SMITH FOWLER

   HANDSOM - A funeral service for Mrs. Nettie Smith Fowler, 94, of Handsom 
will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by 
the Rev. Harry Bunch and the Rev. L.F. Smith.

   Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery.

   Pallbearers are J.C. Johnson, John W. Bryant, J.L. Porter Jr., C.J. Hurst, 
Walter Beale, Sr., C.B. Smart, Walter R. Bishop and Leslie P. Bryant.

   Mrs. Smith died Thursday at 7 a.m. in a Suffolk nursing home after a long 
illness.

   A native of Hertford County, N.C. and a lifetime resident of Southampton 
County, she was a daughter of Shelton and Mrs. Martha Ann Howell Smith and 
the widow of George A. Fowler.

   She was the oldest member of Sunbeam Baptist Church.

   She is survived by a son, Harry E. Fowler of Handsom; a sister, Mrs. Emma 
Jane Councill of Virginia Beale; a granddaughter, Mrs. Ann F. Britt of 
Handsom.
