Finley, in Clay Street. The services were conducted by the Rev. John Adkins Gray, rector of Emmanual Episcopal Church. Rev. Mr. Gray read several passages of scripture and selections of poetry, in a brief service. Burial was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery, pallbearers being Stanley Whitehurst, Howard Canady, Roy Reeves, Letcher Eley, Jr., Paul Councill, Jr., Jesse Weede, Jr., J.H. Boyd, Jr., and Jack Beale. There was a profusion of beautiful floral tributes. Besides his parents, Charles William Finley is survived by a brother, J.J. Finley, Jr., a sister, Mrs. John Daniel Fowler of Arlington, and a nephew, John Daniel Fowler, Jr. of Arlington. He was a graduate of Franklin High School, class of 1938, and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church here. He was employed at Alexandria by the American Chlorophyl Company. The accident resulting in a compound skull fracture and concussion of the brain occurred about 1 o’clock on the morning of January 1, as Charles was riding with friends in the front seat of the automobile when another car crashed into the back of it. Charles was carried to Gallinger Hospital in the city and died there last Friday night at about 10 o’clock. The services and burial were delayed due to the fact that District of Columbia law forbids the holding of an inquest on Saturday or Sunday.
