Holland & Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Carl Ousley. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gene Morgan, William Morgan, Winston Vernalson, Jamie Forbes, Gordon Twine and H.R. Thomas. Mrs. Forbes, 83, died Friday in a nursing home. A native of Nansemond County, she was a daughter of Benjamin and Mrs. Dixie Griffith Morgan and the widow of Frederick Owen Forbes. She was a member of Holland Baptist Church and a former teacher of Ladies Adult Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of Holland Women’s Club and a former member of Parent Teacher Association. She pioneered rural electrification in Holy Neck District of Nansemond County and taught school in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. S. Womack Lee of Holland; two sons, Frederick Benjamin Forbes of Stony Creek and Dozier McDonald Forbes of New York; a stepson, Andrew Lee Forbes of Norfolk; a brother, Benjamin Floyd Morgan of Stony Creek; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
