Forbes of this town, died at her home in Clay Street February 24, after a week’s illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Forbes, who was in her 51st year, was a native of Northampton County, N.C., the daughter of the late Frank and Mrs. Ruth Mann Bridgers, and her parents dying while she was quite young, was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Peele of Potecasi. On November 15, 1895, she married William Evan Forbes of Hertford County, N.C., and they moved to Franklin in 1902. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Geo. A. Sanderford of Franklin, Miss Sadie Forbes who teaches in the Hampton High School, and Miss Willie Forbes of this town. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Annie C. Johnakin of Norfolk and two grandchildren, Allison and Eleanor Sanderford of Franklin. All of her married life Mrs. Forbes had been a devoted and self-sacrificing wife and mother, holding the comfort of the home and the well-being of its inmate one of the prime considerations of her existence. She united with the Baptist Church at Potecasi at the age of nine, becoming affiliated with the Franklin Baptist Church upon making this town her home. She was interested in the church and its organizations and walked the exemplary path of a consistent Christian, wife, mother and neighbor. Funeral services were held from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by her Pastor, Rev. R.D. Stephenson, where a large assemblage of relatives and friends was gathered. Mrs. Henry Duck played and Mrs. F.E. Howell and Mrs. H.G. Cobb sang "How Firm a Foundation," and "Sometime We’ll Understand." Interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being: W.R. Atkinson, Roger I. Beale, H.L. Westbrook, Dr. Jordan Powell, Henry Duck, M.G. Councill, G.G. Smith and M.G. McClenny. The honorary bearers were: J.A. Williams, J. Paul Jones, Geo. R. Hayes, Dr. R.L. Raiford, Dr. J.E. Nance, Wesley Beale, A.M. Stevens, F.R. Day, Jachin and Fred Forbes of Franklin, R.M. Newton of Hampton, and Walter, Jim, Tulle and Cecil Forbes of Hertford County. Maude Belle (BRIDGERS; Mrs. William E.)
