All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM EVAN FORBES William Evan Forbes, 82 years of age, died Wednesday morning, September 2, after a brief illness, although he had been in ill-health for several years. Mr. Forbes was a native of Hertford County, N.C., the son of the late Tully Morrisette Forbes and Mrs. Martha Darden Forbes. He had been a resident of Franklin for 34 years and an employee of the Camp Manufacturing Company for nearly 30 years, retired only a few years ago when his health failed. Joining Mount Tabor Baptist Church in his home community many years ago, he had had been a member of the Franklin Baptist Church since living here. His wife, who was before her marriage Miss Maude Bridges of Northampton County, N.C., died in February, 1931, and they are survived by three children, Mrs. G.A. Sanderford, Miss Sadie Forbes who teaches in Hampton, and Miss Willie Forbes. There are two grandchildren, Allison and Eleanor Sanderford. He leaves six brothers; Walter Forbes of Union, N.C., Jim and Tully M. Forbes of Ahoskie, N.C., Jachin Forbes of Franklin, Fred O. Forbes of Holland and Cecil T. Forbes of Mapleton, N.C., besides a large family connection in Hertford County. Funeral rites were held from the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, conducted by his pastor, the Rev. R.D. Stephenson. The active pallbearers were: W.R. Atkinson, R.I. Beale, H.L. Westbrook, Henry Duck, Dr. J.B. Powell, William Joseph Cross, M.G. Councill and J.R. Lawrence. Honorary bearers were: Ryland, John and Jas. L. Camp, Jr., Dr. Burton J. Ray, R.J. Tucker, J.A. Williams, George R. Hayes, G.C. Smith, Jas. I. Beale, Jr., Sheppard Bell, Wesley H. Beale, Thos. H. Canady, Supt. of Schools R.M. Newton of Hampton, Dr. R.L. Raiford, E.A. Darby, G.E. Johnson, C.E. Bunn, Paul Scarborough.
