All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELVIN LOUIS FIERS Elvin Louis Fiers, 72, retired farmer and business man, died in a Norfolk hospital at 11:10 o'clock Tuesday morning November 13, after an illness of several weeks. He had been a resident of Norfolk for the past eight years, making his home at 219 West 20th Street. He had worked for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia, the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company, and the Alfred Haskell Furniture Company as a salesman. A member of Epworth Methodist Church and the Wesleyman Bible Class, he was a son of the late Richmond T. Fiers and Mrs. Annie Louise Thorpe Fiers of Southampton County. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Mabel Elliott Fiers; and three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Moore of Wyoming, Del., Mrs. F.E. Everett of Sunbeam and Mrs. H.R. Bishop of Handsom. Funeral services for Mrs. Fiers were conducted at the Mt. Horeb Methodist Church, this county, on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by Rev. Joseph S. Johnston, D.D., pastor of Epworth Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. R.B. Moore, pastor of Mt. Hebron Church, and Rev. Harry B. Eaton of Richmond. Mr. Williams of the Wesley Men's Bible Class, accompanied by Miss Juliette Barrett at the piano, sang "In the Garden" and "Sunrise". The casket was covered with a double spray of white chrysanthemums and red rosebuds. There were numerous other floral offerings. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the pallbearers being J.S. Bryant, Roland Eaton, J.N. Ferguson, D.M. Marshall, Lloyd L. Shumadine, Paul Smith and R. Sam White.
