All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ALICE KITCHEN FERGUSON Mrs. Alice Kitchen Ferguson, well-known resident of the Newsoms community, died Saturday night, July 26, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.K. Moore, 4424 Griffin Street, Westhaven, Portsmouth, after an illness of many months. She was 74 years of age. Mrs. Ferguson was the widow of Richard F. Ferguson, who preceded her in death on Saturday, June 21. She was the daughter of the late Rimmy and Elizabeth Kitchen of this county, and a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church. Surviving her are seven daughters, Mrs. Kelly Holland and Mrs. Gus R. Holland of Holland. Mrs. James Fuller of Courtland, Mrs. L.K. Moore and Mrs. Floyd Ferguson of Portsmouth, Mrs. C.C. Thorpe and Miss Ethel Mae Ferguson of Newsoms; five sons, Howard Ferguson of Windsor, Hugh L., Robert, and James Ferguson of Newsoms, and Tizel Ferguson of Capron; twenty-five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Bryant and Mrs. Rosa Barnes, both of Newsoms. Funeral services were conducted at the grave in the Newsoms cemetery on the following Monday afternoon at three o’clock by her pastor, Rev. W.C. Hughes, assisted by Rev. A. Handy of Portsmouth.
