All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELBERT FRANKLIN FERGUSON Funeral services for Elbert Franklin Ferguson, well-known citizen of Newsoms, were conducted from his late residence Tuesday afternoon by Rev. L. E. Dailey, pastor of the Newsoms Baptist Church. The choir sang two hymns, "Nearer My God to Thee" and " Shall We Gather at the River," Mrs. H.M. Purviance singing "At Eventide." Active pallbearers were: J.D. Bryant, C.C. Bradshaw, George Ellis, C.Q. Ferguson, N.A. Cogsdale, and W.P. Futrell, all member of Mr. Ferguson’s Sunday school class. The Honorary bearers were: Charles Lassiter, Willie Porter, B.G. Ferguson, H.L. Duke, Walter Bowles, Dr. B.A. Pope, R.F. Ferguson, Wesley Vick and Dr. J.M. Bland. Interment was made in the Newsoms cemetery. ****************************************************************************** ELBERT FRANKLIN FERGUSON Elbert Franklin Ferguson, age 75, died at his home near Newsoms Monday, July 25, following an illness of ten months. Mr. Ferguson was born February 27, 1857, and spent his entire life in the Newsoms community where he was a successful farmer. He was a charter member of the Newsoms Baptist Church and a regular attendant at Sunday school. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Newsoms. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Josephine Johnson Ferguson; three daughters, Mrs. J.D. Whitfield, Mrs. C.C. Thorp and Mrs. Maynard Griffin, and one son, Roy Ferguson, all of Newsoms, besides 11 grandchildren and a brother, J.D. Ferguson of Boykins. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and interment made in the Newsoms Cemetery.
