All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EMMETT PONTIUS FERGUSON Emmett Pontius Ferguson died at his home near Newsoms Saturday, February 14, in the 65th year of his life. He leaves behind his an honorable name, an unswerving record of loyalty to his family, his church, his community, and in all of the obligations of life. He was a successful farmer and a good citizen; a consistent Christian and a member and deacon of the Newsoms Baptist church for many years. Mr. Ferguson was born in the Newsoms community March 29, 1866. On March 1, 1906, he married Miss Hattie May Reese, who survives him with the following sons and daughters: E. Rives Ferguson and Miss Gladys Ferguson of Petersburg; Russell and Edward Ferguson and Misses Ada and Marjorie Ferguson all of Newsoms; two brothers, Clarence Ferguson of Newsoms and Carlton Ferguson of Fentress, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. G.W. Bradshaw, Mrs. C.C. Bradshaw and Mrs. H.T. Miles of Newsoms and Mrs. H.H. Edwards of Petersburg, besides many relatives and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were conducted from Newsoms Baptist Church Sunday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. L.E. Dailey, assisted by a former pastor, Rev. L.F. Paulette of Smithfield. The body bearers were nephews of Mr. Ferguson: A.L. and H.K. Blandford, H.M., Roy, Aaron, Carl and Hersey Bradshaw and Samuel Ferguson. The honorary bearers were: Prof. H.L. Duff, Ray Vick, J.J. Drake, J.E. Copeland, G.W. Ellis, J.T. Story, H.L. Duke, Felix Bryant and J.D. Bryant.
