VIRGINIA BRYANT FERGUSON

MRS. FERGUSON, BOYKINS’ OLDEST BURIED TODAY

   Mrs. Virginia Bryant Ferguson, died at her home after a long illness 
Sunday at 8 a.m.  She lacked one month of being 92 years of age.

   She was a lifelong resident of Southampton county, a former Newsoms 
resident and believed to be the oldest resident of Boykins.

   She was the daughter of James G. and Freddie Pope Bryant and the widow 
of J.D. Ferguson.  She was a member of Boykins Baptist Church and it’s 
Woman’s Christian Temperance Union.  Until her illness several years ago, 
she was very active in church work.

   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. A.E. Burden and Miss Virginia Dare 
Ferguson; three sons, Elbert Ferguson, Guy P. Ferguson and Jeter D. Ferguson 
all of Boykins and two grandsons, one a student of Virginia Polytechnic 
Institute, Blacksburg, and the other a resident of New York state.

   A funeral service will be conducted in Boykins Baptist Church today 
(Monday) at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Ben B. Ussery, pastor.

   Burial will be in Beechwood cemetery.  The body will be taken from 
Purivance Funeral Home to the church at 1:30 p.m.

   Pallbearers will be W.R. Emmons, Dr. J.J. Grizzard, H.T. Smith, Hugh 
Powell, Jr., Jack Britt, Wilson W. Barnes, Elmo L. Rock and H.O. Carlton.
