MISSING SINCE SATURDAY - FARMER FOUND DEAD SEBRELL - The body of a 49 year-old farmer, missing since Saturday night, was found Monday about 3 p.m. in a field about 300 yards from his home. Sheriff Ryland T. Brooks said that Joe R. Forrest, Jr. was last seen alive Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at his home. He said a search for Forrest started Sunday. Brooks said the body was discovered by Forrest's son, J.R. Forrest, III, and George A. Babb, a son-in-law. Brooks said Forrest was found lying on his back, his left hand placed over his heart. Forrest was found without shoes and dressed in a suit of long underwear, a sweat shirt and hunting breeches. The medical examiner ordered the body sent to the state medical examiner's laboratory in Norfolk. Sheriff Brooks said he was told Forrest had been suffering from a heart condition. ****************************************************************************** FRANKLIN - Joseph Richard Forrest, Jr., 48, the husband of Mr. Ruby Turner Forrest died Saturday. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of Mrs. Nellie Edwards Forrest and the late Joseph R. Forrest. A native of Southampton County, he was a member of Sebrell Methodist Church. Besides his widow and mother, surviving are a son, Joseph Richard Forrest III of Courtland; two daughters, Miss Ann Marie Forrest of Courtland and Mrs. Jean Daughtry of Suffolk; a brother Marvin Forrest of Courtland; four sisters, Mrs. Evie Flowers of Courtland, Mrs. Myra Burgess of Franklin, Mrs. Irma Bunch of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Eula Morris of Wakefield; and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Harold Fuss of Sebrell Methodist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland with W.J.M. Holland Funeral Home in charge.
